I’ve been talking about heading to Darwin for a while now but it’s been all talk and no action. That’s finally changing and the plans are starting to roll along. A mate and I are heading out together on a 14,000km trip across Australia.

There’s a heap of things that need to be organised for what is planned to be around 5 weeks on the road. I’m hoping to use this blog to keep you all updated on the planning and (when we leave) the progress of the trip.

The Truck

For all those who are interested in touring Australia and want to know the car details, here’s the goods. I have a Nissan Patrol 1990 4.2 Diesel. It’s all stock standard and has no after market changes, that’s about to change over the next few months.

Current Additions

  • Winch Bull Bar (I think it’s Factory Fitted)
  • Uniden 40 Channel UHF
  • Light-weight Roof Rack

Some of the planned Modifications

  • 2″ Lift Kit
  • RTC Steering Dampener
  • Heavy Duty Roof Rack
  • 31″ Tyres (Looking at Coopers ST-C’s or BFG M/T)
  • Snorkel
  • Dual Battery kit
  • 2 x 240 XGT Lightforce Lights
  • Waeco Fridge
  • Drawers
  • Electric Winch
  • Long Range Fuel Tank

Well, that’s all for this update. Next, I’ll post a rough map of the route we’re planning to take. I would love to hear recommendations of places to visit en-route so subscribe to updates though RSS/Facebook/Twitter or visit back in a few days to see our draft map.
