Valentines Day. A day of the year I’ve never really been a fan. It might have something to do with the fact I’ve never had a Girl Friend on Valentines Day. It’s always given me a good excuse to get to know someone. This morning I tried to ask a girl out for a 5am coffee before she left to go back to uni 15 hours away. Oh dear. It was probably a little to out there.
Anyway, back to this valentines day thing. A mate of mine, Briony, who’s a pretty awesome drawer, drew this picture and I really like it. The symbolism in the picture shows that because God loved us so much, he gave up the ultimate sacrifice (His son Jesus) to give us the opportunity to live in heaven.
You might not believe in God, Jesus, the Bible and Christians. I’m not religious. But I do believe that Jesus died to forgive me of my screw ups and my life revolves around that premise. Crazy, I know.
No matter what we do, how much we screw up and how often we fall short, we’re still loved and forgiven by the dude that created the universe. This is a God that loved us first, has already accepted us regardless of our current situation and beliefs.
Here are some verses on God’s love for us:
For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. - John 3:16
But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners – Romans 5:8
God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other. - 1 John 4:9-11
